The Team

Marissa Blair

Marissa is a theatre-maker and performance artist who first fell in love with Freestanding in 2019.

She the Artistic Director of Mad Paradox, and organizes a short-form experimental performance festival, Freefalling Monthly.

Ryan Bommarito

Ryan is an actor, creator, and self-taught amateur woodworker. Highlighted works include, a hanging bike rack, and a bench.

Similar to their two compatriots, Ryan has also co-founded a theatre company/collective, Hooks and Crooks and is involved in the makings and doings of Freefalling Monthly (of which you should participate).

Martin Law

Martin is a Montreal-based theatre maker and depending on who you ask, the horrid spawn of a balloon and a witch bat.

He is a co-founder and the artistic director of Chocolate Moose Theatre Company, which has WON AWARDS and he would LIKE YOU TO KNOW THAT. He has been a member of Freestanding since 2016, and since 2017, he has been embezzling responsibly managing the Room's finance.

Naomi Gwynn is a dance artist and cultural worker with a social work degree.

In 2019 she completed Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company’s International Dance Journey Program in Northern Israel, and in 2019-2020 she was a member of Cobos Mika’s Junior company in Palamos, Spain. Naomi has showcased choreographic work and participated in numerous performances both within Canada and abroad - but feels most at home in Montreal grooving in the freestanding room.

Johanna Nutter

Founder, 2008

"The Freestanding Room is a collection of creators who believe that big things happen in small places. They like a good story and the chance to tell it fast and easy. Together, they tend The Freestanding Room; an intimate space used to sharpen their tools, corral their ideas, spin their yarns, and sooner rather than later, invite everyone hungry for a tale told simply and authentically to come sit around their fire."

- Johanna Nutter, Espace Freestanding Room Founder
